Hui. Kriege jetzt schon Lust auf die Runde.
Ich habe mich dann für Warlock Variante 2 entschieden: Scharlatan, der dann zufällig einen echten Patreon kontaktiert hat. Nehme dann book of shadows passenderweise.

I grew up poor and orphaned with my brother Ukrizall. As half-orcs, we were always faced with prejudice, but the human side in our blood is strong. Uk always was the brains of our operations, while I provided the brawn. His innate powers in time turned him into a mighty sorcerer - if thing had been different, he might have become a great scholar. But, being outsiders and poor, we had to scrape by, working or ranks up through many mercenary battalions.
One fateful day, we were sent out on a scouting mission while a lord employed us in a border conflict. We got sorrounded by goblins at night, they were led by a devious group of Hobgoblins.
After a few hours of eery silence, I convinced my group to attempt a break-out. My plan failed, and Ukrizall got hit by several arrows. We tried to keep him stable, but the poison was too strong.
Not long after his passing, our squad leader, a dwarf named Grammund surprised the goblins, killing their leaders and driving the minions off. My failure, which cost me dear brother's life, haunts me to this day - I don't like to talk about it.
But the courage and compassion of Grammund impressed me, and I try to emulate him. I have dedicated myself to protecting the lifes of those who fight my side.

Soweit zumindest die Details, die er offen preisgibt ;).

Hey there fellow adventurers!

This is gettig exciting! I'm looking forward to Monday ... in the meantime, I've also written a backstory for my Human Cleric (Light Domain). She doesn't have a name yet, so right now it's just "xy" in the story:

Kid from a mining town, working class family, oldest of five children, sent to work in the mines at an early age in order to help earn money for the family, not happy about her circumstances, but rational enough to know that sometimes life doesn’t give you what you want, sometimes you have to make do with what you get.
When an accident collapses part of the mine, she is trapped underground. In the darkness and the cold, she starts praying to xxx (deity of light/sun, depends on the setting).
After days of recovering only the bodies of those who had died during or shortly after the collapse, rescuers from the outside finally reach the deepest part of the tunnels: xy is the only one alive, huddled in a corner, severely dehydrated and just barely conscious – but alive. The rescuers find a small rock (or piece of metal, whatever they were mining) glowing with light and warmth in her hands and the traces of fires she couldn’t possibly have lit: charred earth and flame-licked walls all around her.
Weeks later, back in her normal everyday life, at first simply taking care of her younger siblings and helping out around the house, recollections of the unending darkness come back to haunt her, and in moments of quiet her mind conjures up images of the other miners’ bodies coming to life in the tunnels … On her first day back to work, as she follows the stream of workers down the tunnels, deeper into the cold, a vision takes her senses – an image of a sunless sky, unimaginable darkness, with no clouds to hide moon or stars – and a calming voice warns her of a day when the sun’s light will dim forever.
Her parents tell her, she can take as much time as she needs before she has to go back to work, but xy knows that she can never in her life enter that mine again. And so she leaves home for the first time, with the glowing rock (or piece of metal) around her neck and the prophecy of a coming darkness on her mind.

PS: Ahriman, I've followed the Strongholds kickstarter via Matt Coleville's youtube channel - and I definetly want to have a look at that book when it reaches you!

This reaads great so far :D

Cedric was born to a family of shoemakers. Their small shop was close to the Wizards Academy of the capital. His family was poor and Cedric had to care for himself early on while his parents were working long hours. Already a teller of great tales, he got in quite some trouble, but was mostly able to talk his way out of it again. Watching the mages from the University with envy, he decided to become one himself to become rich and live a lazy life. When Cedric was old enough to enroll to the University, he did not make the cut, due to his poor upbringing and lack of skill for the arcane arts. Ashamed and frustrated, he vowed to become one anyway. After a while he was able to get enough information to forge a diploma from the University and some fake magic tricks. With that he applied as a house wizard to an old noble family and was accepted. Unforntunately he was not able to enjoy his new found wealth and luxury for long.
A few days into his new position a group of assassins assaulted the the mansion of his employees and proceeded to kill the inhabitants. Cedric was cornered in the library and had to fend for his life. He grapped one of the old grimoires to block the blades of his attackers. Suddenly the time slowed and he heard a strange voice in his head, that offered help and a way to survive... for a price... Cedric accepted and the pact was sealed. The next thing he remembers is standing outside the burning mansion with the grimoire clutched to his chest. He ran with the voices fiendish laughter following him in his mind.

I am really impressed by the awesome background stories you guys posted.
It gives me a lot of material to use in the story set-up and to make your characters truly feel as part of the world of Faerûn.

I plan to run the story at the Sword Coast, Faerûn, Forgotten Realms setting, as I am most familiar with that Dungeons and Dragons world and because I have the most source books for this setting. I have already an idea about the overarching story, but of course as players you help write the story by your actions, so who knows what will actually happen ;)

I really like the character concepts and am interested to see how the party dynamics evolve over time, as it seems as if the party is rather a rag-tag band and not necessarily united by one goal, but well thats my job as a DM to give you and your characters motivation to engage with the story. I do still have some questions about the mechanics of the character concepts but most of it we can discuss in depth on the Monday.

But here are some questions I would like you to ponder:
for Dana and Ahriman, would you like to be normal humans or variant humans?
for the mechanics this means do you want a +1 to every ability score or +1 to two ability scores of your choice, a skill and a Feat? If you go for the variant human then think on what kind of feat you would want or what you would like to be able to do.

Just for Ahriman, do I get it right that you want your warlock to have the "Fiend" pact? And a remark about the book of shadows, I will let you run around with your Grimoire but it only "activates" as the book of shadows at lvl 3 as by the standard rules. You could use it for roleplaying or story based minor benefits until that point.

And for Christoph, could you write a backstory on Nugget your Gnome Artificer? I know the UA Artificer class and play a Forest Gnome Gunsmith Artificer in a different group, I personally find it rather a one trick pony that is devastating with its gun if it hits but mechanically of not much more use. However that can also be due to the fact that the group I play in has a rotating DM, where the Artificer really benefits from a lot of role-play, story clues and downtime. These things are simply difficult to accomplish with a different DM every session.
So basically I would like to know the specialisation of your Artificer, you can choose one of the standard ones (Gunsmith or Alchemist) or come up with a home-brew concept like a mechanist or something akin to a beast master ranger, but then with a construct based companion. I will follow the core concept of the UA version but may give you some home-brew abilities as we go along.

I am really looking forward to meeting you all Monday,
Arend

Hi Arend,
if thats okay, I would like to use the variant human und take the actor feat. I think that fits very good with the backstory. Indeed it is a fiend pact with book of shadows and using the physical book as a prop or an arcane focus until it is really "unlocked" was the idea.
Faerun sounds great (there i have at least a bit experience). Funny thing, all English speak groups I played with always are in Faerun ^^

Hey everybody,

great stuff! Very excited to meet you all tonight.
@Arend I‘d like to play 'Nugget' with the Alchemist specialization.

See you tonight then,

Christoph

Here‘s her backstory:

Nugget always loved machines and started tinkering with them as a child. Her parents noticed Nugget's curiosity and fostered it. As a wealthy merchant her father was well connected in the empire and arranged for an apprenticeship with the well known artificer Tic-Toc. Nugget left home in her teenage years and stayed with Tic-Toc as his apprentice. Tic-Toc saw Nugget‘s potential early on and was satisfied with her abilities. Nugget learned fast, soon suprising her master with strange and new ideas how to solve a specific problem. From this, a conflict between the two would grew. Where Tic-Toc followed tradition, Nugget would try to innovate; sometimes even at the expense of safety. When Tic-Toc agreed to a prestigious contract with the emperor's council, this conflict would find its disastrous conclusion. Tic-Toc was asked to produce a new formula of fuel for the council‘s secret new war machine. Tic-Toc worked day and night on the problem, but wasn‘t able to come up with results. Nugget, again, saw a possibility, but it was dangerous. She knew Tic-Toc would not approve of the methods she wanted to use. Therefor she waited when the master was asleep. Within only a few hours, she produced her intended result. Heureka!
She left the substance on her master‘s workdesk for him to recover in the morning. Satisfied with herself, Nugget went to bed. Lying there, she fantasized about how Tic-Toc would finally approve of her ideas and realizing how she had outgrown him. It almost felt like the night before her birthday, that’s how excited she was for the next morning!
The thunderous explosion made her wake up instantly. She rushed to the workshop, smelling burned wood and metal- and flesh. Tic-Toc was lying on his back, the workshop around him rapidly catching fire. Instinctively Nugget carefully picked him up and managed to escape the growing inferno. But it was too late for her master, the explosion of the substance she brew up the night before was too devastating. Tic-Toc passed away only minutes after she pulled him out of the workshop. Nugget couldn‘t grasp what was happening. She could hear the belltower, alarming the city. Soon help would arrive. Soon everybody would know what happened here. Soon everybody would know that she was responsible for the fire; and for Tic-Tocs death. This was all too much. She left Tic-Toc on the stairs of the workshop before help arrived. She left the city on the same day. She didn‘t know where she was going. She just wanted to get as far away from the city as she could. So that nobody would ever learn what she had done.

There aren't by any chance; any spots left open for grabs are there?

Fellow Dutchy here, living in Bonn and I am craving to actually play a character again some time. As I usually have to GM.

Hej fellow Dutchy,

Welcome to the group.
The next session is on Wednesday the 20th at 19:00.
Would that be an option for you?

If that is ok, could you already send me your character concept (race, class, background and story)
Preferably before the Tuesday next week.

I can give you a short summary of the adventure so far if you want that in order to make your character.
Or you can just go with a character that you would enjoy playing.

Let me know if you need anything,

Arend
