English speaking group for "testplay"

Beitrag von Santiago »

Hi

Since I was asked to host an online group some time in the future, where most of the people are from USA, Scandinavia etc., I wanted to be sure that my english skills would be good enough for such an event. So I'm searching for english speaking players who are willing to do some kind of one-shot and give me some feedback. Although I don't have the great games like D&D, Shadowrun, Pathfinder in my repertory, most of the systems I own and play ((either as player or GM)) are already in english, so there should be a wide selection to choose from ((eg. Shadows of Esteren, Witcher, Cypher Systems, Dragon Age, Through the breach...)). For me the system/setting doesn't matter for now ((one exception: World of Darkness, I played that for such a long time that I'm still oversaturated)), cause I want to get more practice in my english roleplaying skills.

So, hope to hear/read from you soon 8-)

I'm definitely interested.

I'm new to the RPG community in this area, and I'm still learning German (my wife speaks pretty good German, and is also interested in playing).
We have read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy.

I know the D&D systems, and am happy to play 5e (which seems like the best version of D&D to date) or other systems.

I have also been reading the Cypher System rulebook recently, and have watched several hours of Cypher gameplay (Nerdarchy youtube channel playing Shadowrun with Cypher rules).
Cypher System has impressed me greatly for it's emphasis on story telling, realism, and speed of gameplay.
D&D has long been a system noted for it's appeal to players who enjoy "crunch" ('number crunching' , and while 5e is better than the previous versions IMO, it all depends on what you want from your experience. The Cypher System seems more focused around storytelling rather than statistical "min-max", or "power gaming".

These days, I feel that storytelling is perhaps more interesting to me personally, though I am happy to play whatever, so long as everyone is agreed/happy with the choice before we start. I especially like the motto coined by the Nerdarchy staff writer "if you roll dice, roll camera". Some of the ideas being; to keep a video record of PnP RPG campaigns in order to never lose any story, potentially entertain many other people, and even if those are not major concerns, at least the option is available.

P.S.
I am interested in playing and DMing, though I would like to play a bit first before I DM, since it has been so long. I may post a thread related to that soon, and if anyone has any comments, suggestions, or information,
please do not hesitate to tell me via post or PM. Thanks! :)

Hi Santiago,

i will gladly help you with your testplay. I consinder my englisch to be good, but I have never used it in a PnP game. Therefore it will be a new experience for me aswell.
Since it will only be a one shot, I'm open for all systems. From the ones you mentioned and own, I only know Dragon Age a little bit. (Played the videogames and saw the two part episode from Will Wheatons TabelTop)

If you have any questions, just ask ;)

Kind Regards

So, back from the convention and, as written, happy about your answers.
Just an idea: are you available this saturday? I would suggest a meeting at the Voyager to start some plans?! ((I could also bring some kind of english fantasy adventure boardgame, like "Touch of Evil" or so....)).

I won't know for sure before friday, if I will have time on saturday. But as of now I think it is unlikely that my other appointment on saturday will take place. Therefore I think there is a 90% chance that I will have time on saturday.

Hey,

I am to late to the party. I've been playing some German P&P's for a while. But I really wanna try in my native language.

What's on the card?

Yours,

Jupp
